Storm leaves damage, power outages and several injuries in west metro

Excerpt:

The trouble began around 2:10 when a line of storms intensified over western Hennepin County. The entire event was over by 2:45 p.m., but that was long enough to cause thousands of dollars in damage.

The storm brought heavy rain, hail and in Plymouth a microburst.

Meteorologist Belinda Jensen says a wet microburst is when rain cooled air rushes down out of a thunderstorm and creates a fan of destruction.

The microburst is a very localized column of sinking air producing damaging winds at the surface. Microburst can produce damage as severe as a tornado.

That microburst caused construction trailers at a work site near Highway 55 and Xenium to flip with workers inside. Four people were injured, three were admitted to North Memorial Medical Center.

One of the trailers ended up on top of a car, but the woman inside was not seriously hurt.

(WCCO) Plymouth, Minn. Three construction workers were sent to the hospital when high winds sent two work site trailers flying in Plymouth, Minn. Tuesday afternoon. One of the trailers landed on a van parked on Northwest Boulevard near Highway 55.
