Ham Lake Fire

Wind pushes fire into Ontario

Excerpt:

GRAND MARAIS, Minn. — A steady south wind pushed the Ham Lake fire deeper into Canadian wilderness on Sunday, charring thousands of acres near Saganaga Lake and forcing the evacuation of cabins and homes in Ontario.

The blaze recorded 80 to 100 foot high flames as it marched through more bone-dry forests on both sides of the border, casting sparks far ahead and igniting a large island on Saganaga Lake.
