Katherine Kersten: Pawlenty's vetoes keep the system running right

Excerpt:

If the Legislature had moved more to the political center, it could likely have overridden some of Pawlenty's vetoes. The number of Republican votes needed to override was very slim - only one vote in the Senate and five in the House.

But legislative leaders chose instead to press their agenda, and Pawlenty's vetoes held. The resulting process wasn't always pretty, but the final forced compromise may reasonably reflect the desires of the majority of Minnesotans.
