Rain enters battle against wildfire

Excerpt:

GRAND MARAIS, MINN. -- Rain was falling lightly on the tip of Minnesota's Arrowhead this morning, a hopeful sign for the people hoping to gain full control of the Ham Lake wildfire, as well as the people waiting to return to their homes and cabins.

Fire officials have said since last week that it would take cooperative weather -- higher humidity, less wind -- to allow them to stop the fire's destructive march near the end of the Gunflint Trail.

This week has begun with such weather, and with more than 1,000 people now fighting the fire, officials are cautiously projecting containment by next weekend.

Comment: Good news: cooler, wetter weather!
