Cosmic rays blamed for global warming

Cosmic rays blamed for global warming

Excerpt:

Man-made climate change may be happening at a far slower rate than has been claimed, according to controversial new research.

Scientists say that cosmic rays from outer space play a far greater role in changing the Earth's climate than global warming experts previously thought.

In a book, to be published this week, they claim that fluctuations in the number of cosmic rays hitting the atmosphere directly alter the amount of cloud covering the planet.

wrong on climate change?

Excerpt:

When politicians and journalists declare that the science of global warming is settled, they show a regrettable ignorance about how science works. We were treated to another dose of it recently when the experts of the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change issued the Summary for Policymakers that puts the political spin on an unfinished scientific dossier on climate change due for publication in a few months’ time. They declared that most of the rise in temperatures since the mid-20th century is very likely due to man-made greenhouse gases.

My own views:

  1. As a Christian I need to be steward of the resources God has provided. I need to be a steward of the environment. (This has some practical implications that are simple and personal - using less electricity and gas, driving a fuel efficient vehicle, driving judiciously)
  2. This world is wearing out: Hebrews 1:10-11 (NIV): "In the beginning, O Lord, you laid the foundations of the earth, and the heavens are the work of your hands. They will perish, but you remain; they will all wear out like a garment."
  3. This planet will be ravaged by the Tribulation period (book of Revelation)
  4. My mission is not to "save the planet" ... it is to evangelize the lost one person at a time. Christ will "save the planet" providing "a new earth in which righteousness dwells." (2 Peter 3:13)
  5. Scientists have been wrong - the vast majority of them are wrong about evolution!
  6. To stifle debate on views of global warming is intellectually dishonest.
  7. The George Will quotation (see earlier posts) speaks volumes: "Was life better when a sheet of ice a mile thick covered Chicago? Was it worse when Greenland was so warm that Vikings farmed there"
