Proverbs 5 - The Peril of Adultery

Proverbs 5:20-23

For why should you, my son, be enraptured by an immoral woman,

And be embraced in the arms of a seductress?

For the ways of man are before the eyes of the LORD,

And He ponders all his paths.

His own iniquities entrap the wicked man,

And he is caught in the cords of his sin.

He shall die for lack of instruction,

And in the greatness of his folly he shall go astray.

A friend of mine has fallen morally. He met a woman on the Internet and a relationship ensued. He was caught and forced to resign in disgrace from his church.

What this man lost:

  1. He lost his ministry.
  2. He deeply hurt his spouse and family.
  3. He damaged the marriage of the woman he had a relationship with.
  4. He flushed away his seminary training.
  5. He forfeited the privilege of Pastoring (cf I Timothy 3).
  6. He humiliated himself.
  7. He hurt many brothers and sisters and brought disrespect upon Christ and His church.

To my few readers: Pray for this situation.

  2. 1 Timothy 3:2, A bishop then must be blameless ... of good behavior
  3. Galatians 6:1, Brethren, if a man is overtaken in any trespass, you who are spiritual restore such a one in a spirit of gentleness, considering yourself lest you also be tempted
  4. James 5:16, Therefore, confess your sins to one another and pray for one another, that you may be healed
