  1. Good list.
Not to get serious, but #9 all depends on who you talk to. It is a vegetable (generically speaking any edible part of any plant is a vegetable) but botanically speaking it is a fruit.

Corn is another odd one. It is a vegetable till ripe at which point it is a fruit and called grain. (I believe is how I heard it taught to me.)

  2. The fruit / vegetable / grain issue. Not sure if I completely understand it.

To me grain would be the seed alone; fruit something that contains the seed (like a banana); vegetable - not the see (like lettuce). But what about green beans? I consider that a vegetable but it contains the seed? Peas ... I consider that a vegetable but aren't the peas the seed of the pea plant?

  3. I think the confusion is there are different definitions for vegetable.

Vegetable can be any edible part of any plant from the root to foliage, or it could be any edible part of any plant that is not already in a different group. (fruit mushrooms)

Fruit is the part of the plant that comes from the ovary of the plant, which also includes poisonous fruit. So, I think, a lot qualify that term with edible as well.

  4. Vegetable excursus: I hate brussels sprouts!
