Roger Peet addresses Gov. Mark Dayton's comments on Shakopee hecklers

Letter of the Day (May 2): Shakopee hecklers

Entire letter as published:

I am bemused that Gov. Mark Dayton would label the audience at the Shakopee “Meeting with Mark” forum crowd as acting “juvenile.”

Have our elected servants have lost touch with the anger of the taxpaying electorate? My federal and state government expect me to do much more with my shrinking portion of the pie.

Has the governor lost track that there may be creative ways to show leadership as a “steward” of the people’s tax money without name-calling?

The juvenile label serves no one. Sure, some can be rude or uncivil, but this implied understanding goes with the job. As one civil servant noted: If you are looking for a friend at the seat of government, get a dog.

The “juvenile” electorate may be the same customers who pay the (taxed) salaries of many of our out-of-touch public servants.

  1. IF I owned a government issued money printing press, would I
    dare call my benefactor; "juvenile"?
Lawyers and "Blue bloods" have forgotten the little fellow who provides
that high tax-paid lifestyle. There is well founded anger from the man
on the streets. What is needed is much "more" for much "less". A display of humble leadership is NO cost. President Truman understood
the value of "man's best friend"! Can you say, "T.E.A Party anyone? "

  2. I think Dayton needs to come back to Mayo and get a transplant for some thicker skin. Sorry, but my junior high memories involve a lot higher decibels than that, as well as the learning of the fine art of Anglo-Saxon verbiage--not to mention phrases that I'm pretty sure the Anglo-Saxons would hesitate to allow to leave their mouths.

For that matter, if he can't stand a little bit of heckling, he needs to talk to a lot of his supporters, doesn't he? It's not like Huffington Post and Daily Kos are noted for their dignified restraint or anything.
