Bridge collapse thoughts

John Piper: Putting My Daughter to Bed Two Hours After the Bridge Collapsed

Comments:

  1. We heard about this at about 7:35 when our daughter called us to ask if we had heard about it. (We were just sitting down for coffee & Bible time and the TV was off).
  2. My manager (Tom B.) called me shortly afterwards to check up on me. That was nice! He drives every day under that bridge on West River Road. He missed being crushed by about an hour!
  3. Kathee called every one of her employees over the next three hours. One she could not connect with called her back @ 10:20 p.m. to say he was fine. (This is not purely altruism! Our company has very specific business unit BCP (Business Continuity Plan) plans and following up on employees in times of tragedy is standard procedure.))
  4. Rachel's roommate's (Jesse) sister's boyfriend was on the bridge and was injured. Rachel's report this morning: "he is out of the hospital, but his car is totaled".
  5. My cousin, Donna W, from Richland Michigan contacted us to make sure we were OK
  6. (We do not drive this way to or from work!)
  7. It was sad to see some capitalizing on this tragedy to try to score political points for raising taxes and against Governor Pawlenty! (I actually favor raising gasoline taxes (here & (here) to fund infrastructure ... but let's leave the politics out of this!)
  8. Luke 13:1-5 & the tower in Siloam collapse always comes to mind at times like this!
  9. John Piper (link) comments on the bridge collapse (and cites the above passage). A good read.
