Comment: The Bushes have been big spenders! Charts don't include bailout bucks from October and November.

  1. Perhaps I have been misinformed, but I understood that the president proposes a budget but the congress appropriates the money. The President cannot spend a dime without the approval of the legislative branch.

    Perhaps the debt in charts you linked to should be measured according to whether or not both the congress and president were of the same party. I'd be curious to see the statistics.

    Clinton had an opposition party congress for a good deal of his time in office, the deficit was eliminated, and growth of the national debt was reduced.

    Bush on the other hand had a complicit Republican congress and they went spending crazy. This is why the republican party was thrown out.

    The democrats are in a position to make the same mistake with Obama and the congress in the same party.
