Fairfax Street - Littleton CO

In February 1987 I was called to South Holly Baptist Church in Littleton, CO. Before our move in April, I flew back to Denver on a house hunting trip. I bought this house at 7017 Fairfax Street. As I recollect we paid $ 112,000 for this. I took out a $ 97,000 mortgage. 9 years later we sold it for $ 187,000.

There formerly was a maple tree to the left of the driveway and a large Colorado blue spruce near the mailbox.

While we lived there we: redid the siding, experienced a severe hail storm that destroyed that siding on 2 sides, had the siding and roof replaced, replaced the windows, built a sun-room, finished the basement, put in hardwood floors in the kitchen, LR, dining room, and entry way / hallway, and had the kitchen cabinets replaced. We also had a 12' x 8' shed built in back yard. A friend of mine put power (lights and outlets) in the shed. It was a nice house.

We sold it in June 1996 and moved to Plymouth MN.

The weekend that I broke my neck (Labor Day 1987) I had replaced the shutters and repaired the fence gate.

Moorestown Bible Church

In February 1984, I was called to Moorestown Bible Church in historic 300 year old Moorestown New Jersey. We sold our house in Cherry Hill and moved into the parsonage next to the church (house to the left of the church in the photo above. The house was built in 189? (I think in 1897). It had been a funeral home for many years. The church had been Moorestown Methodist Protestant church, then Moorestown Bible Protestant Church, then Moorestown Bible Church and now is Hope Community Church. Across the street from the church / parsonage is a WAWA convenience store and a Friendly's restaurant. Next to the church is a CVS pharmacy - used to be an Oldsmobile dealer.

Address with street view: 235 W Main Street Moorestown, NJ

Cherry Hill NJ

Shortly after we moved to New Jersey we bought this house at 1308 Paddock Way, Cherry Hill, NJ.

As I recollect (I will need to check with Kathee), the brick was white and the siding was forest green. The house sits on large lot and a half. The house needed substantial work. We pulled up all of the carpets and had the hardwood floors refinished. We also redid the kitchen. We did a ton of entertaining in this house (largely ministry related). We lived here for 3 1/2 years.

Grand Rapids MI

Excerpt:

Our next stop was Grand Rapids MI. I had a strong desire to enter the ministry as a vocation. Kathee and I prayed about this for almost a year. We considered both Grace Theological Seminary (Winona Lake, IN) and Grand Rapids Baptist. We visited both schools and thought Grand Rapids would be best for us. We bought a house on Paris Avenue. Because housing was much less expensive in Michigan than Pittsburgh we were able to buy a very nice house for much less than the house we sold in Pittsburgh.

We moved Grand Rapids in August 1978. Kathee was rehired by IBM as an engineer. She had been working for Mellon Bank while in Pittsburgh.

Strangely enough and without prior consultation with my Mother, the house we bought was about 2 blocks away and on the same street as where my Mother had rented a room during World War II. Weird hugh! (She had been living in Alto Michigan but had to rent a room in Grand Rapids while she worked for the draft board.)

This house (it's a little hard to see) was built in 1934 by a prominent physician. It had 4 bedrooms upstairs and a living room, dining room, and a family room on the main level. Additionally it had a full apartment in the basement. I rented this out to seminarians for the two years we lived here.

We would move back to this neighborhood!

I served as a deacon and youth director at Good News Baptist while we lived here.

Tampa Florida

I was hired by IBM in February 1973 moved to Tampa Florida. I was a trainee computer salesman. The training was one full year with classes in Washington DC, New York City, and Princeton NJ. Kathee was an engineering new hire in June of 1973 and she sat right by me at work (thank you Lord!). We married in December 1974 and bought this house: 710 Gateway LN. We contracted for the house either just before our wedding or shortly afterward and moved in in the Spring of 1975. I sodded the back yard by hand. I think we paid $ 42,000 for this house.

Delhi, OH

Dad was promoted and moved to Cincinnati OH in 1960. Dad and Mom bought this house (5408 Alomar Dr, Delhi, OH) for I think $ 21,000. I lived here until I graduated from college in 1971. I painted those wrought iron rails, the gutters, the soffit. My folks lived here until 1987. It's still a nice middle class neighborhood. There was a large farmer's field in the back then. And back to the NW was small wood and past that a pond. A very fun place to live!

Monroe Street in Fort Wayne

I lived at 4029 Monroe Street from just after my birth (1949) until 1960. Dad did a lot with thsi house: put a large bedroom in the attic, finished the basement, and built a large garage in the back. The last time we visited here (about 9 years ago), this area of Fort Wayne was very run down. I climbed in those trees as a kid! (4029 Monroe Street, Fort Wayne, IN)

Chattanooga: My failed attempt at seminary school

After leaving Campus Crusade for Christ, I worked at Monsanto Chemical company in Addyston OH for a bit (I think a month) and then worked as a summer ministry intern at my Church (Westwood Baptist in Cheviot OH). That Fall I went to Tennessee Temple Seminary and bombed out by Thanksgiving. I had neither the maturity, the discipline or the money. I lived on South Holly Street near the campus. I lived on the right side and parked behind the house off 12th street: (1188 S Holly St, Chattanooga, TN). It was a duplex at the time and the rent was $ 66 per month. I worked full time for the Chattanooga public schools in adult education (think GED!). After the first of the year (1973) I earnestly began looking for a better paying job

Buffalo: 1971-72

In the school year, 1971-72, I lived in Buffalo New York and served as a campus missionary Campus Crusade for Christ. I had graduated in June 1971 from the University of Cincinnati. This is where I lived then. There were 4 apartments in this building. We were on the lower front. The approximate address is 3193 Main Street, Buffalo, NY
