8 U.S. Code § 1182 - Inadmissible aliens

8 U.S. Code § 1182 - Inadmissible aliens

Excerpt:

(f) Suspension of entry or imposition of restrictions by President

Whenever the President finds that the entry of any aliens or of any class of aliens into the United States would be detrimental to the interests of the United States, he may by proclamation, and for such period as he shall deem necessary, suspend the entry of all aliens or any class of aliens as immigrants or nonimmigrants, or impose on the entry of aliens any restrictions he may deem to be appropriate. Whenever the Attorney General finds that a commercial airline has failed to comply with regulations of the Attorney General relating to requirements of airlines for the detection of fraudulent documents used by passengers traveling to the United States (including the training of personnel in such detection), the Attorney General may suspend the entry of some or all aliens transported to the United States by such airline.
Comment: For all Americans who are in a tizzy about Trump's executive order ... example: Schumer tears up as he calls Trump's immigration ban 'mean-spirited' ... it is legal! And other Presidents have exercised the same authority. 1. Dunno what to think here, as people seem determined not to actually find out the human cost of refugees in terms of welfare, crime, terrorism, and the like. The anecdotal reports I'm hearing out of western Europe are not good, though, and I think that's mostly what is being responded to.

  2. Obama speaks out and of course he disagrees and misrepresents it:

"That's not American. That's not who we are. We don't have religious tests to our compassion," Obama said in the aftermath of attacks in Paris that prompted calls for the U.S. to restrict Syrian refugees from entering the United States.

Trump and the White House have vigorously disputed the notion that Trump's order is a "Muslim ban." Trump's halts all refugee admissions for 120 days, suspends the Syrian refugee program indefinitely and also suspends entry to the U.S. from seven majority-Muslim countries for 90 days. But the White House has stressed that dozens of other Muslim-majority countries aren't included.
