Tire "born on" date
U.S. DOT Tire Identification Number
Excerpt:
This begins with the letters "DOT" and indicates that the tire meets all federal standards. The next two numbers or letters are the plant code where it was manufactured, and the last four numbers represent the week and year the tire was built. For example, the numbers 3197 means the 31st week of 1997. The other numbers are marketing codes used at the manufacturer's discretion. This information is used to contact consumers if a tire defect requires a recall.
Comment: I understand that the tire born on date in only on the inside of a tire. Because of our blow out yesterday, again buying a couple of tires.
Glad to see you're OK.
ReplyDeleteMay I suggest a set of Michelins? I put 110k on a set with my minivan, and have over 70k on a set with my pickup, with no problems. They also own BF Goodrich.
Biggest problem with Michelins is that you feel obligated to maintain the car better so it'll last as long as your tires, IMO. :^)
JP, what did they fill the new tires with? I didn't know until just recently that air is so old school.
