All flights by BOB JONES UNIVERSITY INC
Comment: Data from the Wall Street Journal. I'm going to offer an opinion: Why can't they fly commercial like the rest of us? Why all the flights to Naples Florida?

Agreed. Corporate execs are one thing, but c'mon...BJU...seriously?
ReplyDeleteBJU is a corporation. I am sure that they can justify it on a cost basis, otherwise they would simply fly commercial.
ReplyDeleteThis can only be seen as a cheap shot, Jim, and is unworthy of you.

I'm sure it's not the cost Jim's worried about - it's the fact that they aren't purchasing enough carbon credits to offset the fuel they're burning...

It's not a cheap shot. I am not a BJU hater. I do question the need for a corporate jet.
ReplyDeleteAnd as I asked earlier ... what's with all those business trips to Naples Florida
Brother, what business is it of yours? They don't have to justify their business decisions to you or me... And I am a "paying customer" in a sense, with three kids as students right now.

It's as much my business as I care to make it. When BJU visits my church and an offering is made to them, it's my business
ReplyDeleteIs BJU a corporation, or a not-for-profit institution? Although I couldn't find that information quickly (60 seconds) on their web site, I'd be shocked to find out they are a for-profit school.
ReplyDeleteBudweiser really changed once they were taken over by InBev. Apparently Budweiser was really big into corporate perks such as always flying private jets. But the new management at InBev really put the clamps down on many things, including travel, and now forces many people to travel commercial. And not all of those flights are 1st class. Of course, it's probably not an apples to apples comparison so I don't want to be unfair either to Bud or BJ by comparing them unfairly.
ReplyDeleteMaybe we should teach this to Jim?

It's not apples to apples because an organization like BJ might have just one or two planes versus a huge corporation which might have a few of them.
ReplyDeleteGuys you are missing the point...BJU was founded as a Para church "ministry" (of sorts) However, if you step back and look at this institution objectively (which I admit is a challenge for all of us) BJU has operated very similarly as many of the Pentecostal "ministries" we all believe are not being lead by the Spirit of God...they create a pseudo-celebrity status where people can't even think a thought yet dare to say it if it aligns with scripture but rebukes the leadership...To fly around the country feeding on the pride of life while faculty and staff work at poverty wages and benefits seems to be very warped and smacks of people who sincerely believe some are more important than others...It just hit me...if they lived 2,000 years ago and saw a mere carpenter playing with "children" and giving them the time of day and then ministering to tax collectors and inquiring Parishes, where do you think these people would stand?...over by Jesus or standing off with the Pharisees? I've been on the fringes of this core group for decades now and their current refusal to capitulate on music is drawing thousands of truly born again Christians into this spiritually dead group of ensnared people...I am not mad or at odds with anyone (there or anywhere else); however, this institution has unfortunately had more cult like DNA in it than we want to admit.
