Derby Line Vermont

line on the floor marking the U.S.-Canada border

A border runs through it: Tiny town worries feds

Excerpt:

DERBY LINE, Vermont (AP) -- Step through the front door of the Haskell Library and you're in the United States.

Walk across the carpeted floor to the circulation desk and you're in Canada. But if you sit down on the couch, you're back in the U.S.

Comment: Blogworthy because when one thinks about border issues, Mexico not Canada comes to mind. I definitely need to visit!

  1. You should visit. The border patrol presence on the Canadian border in Vermont has more than double from 88 people before 9/11 to almost 200 today. The Haskell Library and opera house is funded from Canadian funds and an endowment set up by the Founder Haskell. It is designed after the Boston Opera house and is very beautiful. My foundest memories were visiting as a child and walking inside, then across the border to the childrens book section and spending hours among the stacks. It is a very unique area, not really too much to see unless you appreciate local history but they do a good job of entertaining visitors. BE sure to ask anyone about experiences living on the border, stop in at Browns drugstore and ask about living on the line. I grew up within sight of the border and it was a very unique experience. Now to look at more of your blog:)
