HTML: The Anchor Tag and the Href Attribute

HTML Links

Correct usage of the A HREF tag when blogging:

  1. Use the "Edit HTML" tab in blogger to Edit HTML (important to correct issues with links!)
  2. Usage: <a href="URL String" target="_blank">Text to display</a>
  3. The URL string takes the form of http://www.w3schools.com
  4. Target="_blank" will open the link in a new brower window instead of overlaying the new URL page over one's blog. Note the underscore ("_") before the word blank!
  5. It is very important to test the link and correct if it does not work appropriately. The link should open the appropriate page in a new browser window!

Mac HTML editor

Taco HTML editor

Because I do some web work, I need both an HTML editor and a FTP client. I've used Edit Plus for over 10 years (and still use it at work!). I really like this editor. I also use it to edit Cold Fusion code. But alas, Edit Plus does not work on the Mac.

An Apple support person recommended Taco and I downloaded it today. It does not look as full featured as Edit Plus but I think it will work for me. It is also free! Hard to beat free!

I still need a FTP client. I'm going to wait until after I get back from vacation before I address this need.

Barebones HTML guide

The Bare Bones Guide to HTML

The Bare Bones Guide to HTML lists all the tags that current browsers are likely to recognize. I have included all the elements in the official HTML 4.0 recommendation with common attributes, as well as Netscape and Microsoft extensions. This document is a quick reference, not a complete specification; for official information about HTML and its development, see the World Wide Web Consortium site at http://www.w3.org/MarkUp/.

Comment: Handy online guide!
