Grandson of a slave
Ray Robinson (b 1919) dropped by to see me today. We split a diet Coke and chatted.
- Ray was born in Alabama. His grandfather was a slave. His surname is the name of the slave-owner.
- He was raised in a Christian home.
- He volunteered for the Army in 1940 and served in Italy in WWII as a forward artillery observer.
- After the war, he worked on the Sunset Limited as a Porter and then later on the San Francisco Chief from Chicago to San Francisco.
- He later worked for the US Portal Service
- Ray is a former neighbor and a brother in Christ
- It was good to fellowship with him this morning
