Christmas carolers

We we blessed to have 4th Baptist Christmas carolers visit us last night. I tried to sing along but my voice is pathetic in contrast with the skills of these my Sisters and Brothers.

Sam Macalus: Plymouth Metrolink's 500,000th rider

Plymouth Metrolink rewards 500,000th rider

It's easy for one day to blend into another when a person follows the same routine day after day, but Friday, Dec. 7, broke the pattern for one area resident.

When Plymouth Metrolink pulled into Plymouth's Station 73 Park and Ride Friday afternoon and Sam Macalus stepped off the bus, he was greeted by Plymouth Transit Coordinator Bernie Maciej and a series of camera flashes.

Macalus was the 500,000th rider on Plymouth Metrolink in 2007.

The bus-stop celebration came as a complete surprise to Macalus, who lives in Maple Grove and rides Metrolink on his way to the University of Minnesota, where he's a student.

"It's really nice to be able to get downtown so fast," Macalus said. "It's faster than driving, and I'm never stuck in traffic."

Comment: Sam worships with us at 4th Baptist. The print edition of the Sun Sailor had a picture of Sam on the front page today!

Habakkuk 2:4

Habakkuk 2:2-4:

Then the LORD answered me and said:


“ Write the vision
And make it plain on tablets,
That he may run who reads it.
3 For the vision is yet for an appointed time;
But at the end it will speak, and it will not lie.
Though it tarries, wait for it;
Because it will surely come,
It will not tarry.
4 “ Behold the proud,
His soul is not upright in him;
But the just shall live by his faith.

Don Diehl preached on Habakkuk in the Sunday p.m. message at 4th yesterday. It was very thought provoking, and I commend him for tackling the entire book in 1 message!

Question: Do you know where and what context Habakkuk 2:4 is utilized in the New Testament?

Answer (where):

Romans 1:17 was especially impactful in the conversion of Martin Luther:

"There I began to understand [in Romans 1:17] that the righteousness of God is that by which the righteous lives by a gift of God, namely by faith . . . Here I felt that I was altogether born again and had entered the gates of paradise itself through open gates. There a totally other face of the entire Scripture showed itself to me. Thereupon I ran through the Scriptures from memory. I also found in other terms an analogy, as, the work of God, that is, what God does in us, the power of God, with which he makes us strong, the wisdom of God, with which he makes us wise, the strength of God, the salvation of God, the glory of God"

I find it interesting that the Apostle Paul cited Habakkuk in his synagogue message at Antioch in Pisidia (Habakkuk 1:5 as cited in Acts 13:41)!

Asian night @ 4th

Kathee and I went to Asian night at 4th Baptist tonight. I had invited a young man from work and he committed to attending. Unfortunately he did not come, but we had a great time nevertheless. Kathee brought a chicken salad dish. After about an hour and a half of gym activities, we had dinner in the atrium. I met some new friends and we had a good time.

Comment: As a member of Fourth Baptist, it is my job to pray for and support Dr. McLachlan's successor. His success will be a function of the prayers and support and "followship" of his leadership. Kathee and I are committed to supporting Pastor McLachlan's replacement!

I am thankful for Pastor McLachlan’s example to me in fidelity to the Saviour. I have classmates who have already disqualified themselves from gospel ministry by bringing reproach to the name of Christ. Here was a man who was faithful in his personal life to the Gospel and its implications for his life. In an era that saw drastic changes in the venues and possibilities for immorality, here was a man who remained faithful to his God. He not only showed this in his fidelity to his wife, but in his handling of church funds, and even in how he spoke and loved. He was greatly influenced by the writings of Francis Schaeffer, and exemplified the kind of Christian love Schaeffer had called for a generation earlier. The body of Christ has been weakened by the number of pastors who thought they were exempt from the demands they themselves proclaimed, and brought ruin and scorn to the cross of Christ. Doug McLachlan, on the other hand, has shown himself to be a true “blameless” servant of the Lord.
