Roger called up to serve in Red River flooding area

Fargo, ND, to begin 2nd round of sandbagging

Excerpt:

Residents in Fargo, N.D., will resume sandbagging along a swollen river to prepare for a second crest expected in the next 10 days.

City officials are asking for volunteers to help make sandbags Wednesday morning at the Fargodome parking lot. They hope to bump up their inventory to 500,000 sandbags to be used to shore up dikes and fill leaks.

The National Weather Service is forecasting that the Red River will crest again at Fargo between 38 and 40 feet. That's due to occur between April 16 and 18.

The Red gave Fargo and neighboring Moorhead, Minn., a major scare last month before cresting just shy of 41 feet. The two cities largely escaped damage after a massive sandbagging effort that raised their dike protection to 43 feet.

Comment: Our son, Roger, was called up today (to leave on Monday) to serve for 2 weeks in the Red River valley. He is a Sgt in the MN National Guard (formerly 6 years in the USMC).
