'Guiding Light' blinks out

'Guiding Light' demise continues soaps' decline

Excerpt:

The latest soap victim, CBS' "Guiding Light" -- a show that began on NBC Radio in 1937 -- will go quietly out Friday after 72 years on the air.

Comment: I can honestly say I have never wasted time watching a soap operas (not to say I haven't wasted plenty of time on other things!).

Wiki: Guiding Light

The show's title refers to a lamp in the study of Reverend Dr. John Ruthledge, a major character when The Guiding Light debuted in 1937, that family and residents could see as a sign for them to find help when needed.
