Respect for the Pastor

I Thessalonians 5:12-13, "And we urge you, brethren, to recognize those who labor among you, and are over you in the Lord and admonish you, and to esteem them very highly in love for their work’s sake."

Pastors and other men who have had a great impact on me (or Kathee):

  1. Dr Tom Hall of Westwood Baptist Cheviot Ohio. My first Pastor.
  2. Dick Sauer, SS teacher at Westwood Baptist.
  3. Dave Iverson and Dwight Bull: University of Cincinnati Campus Crusade for Christ. Both had a profound influence on me - particularly Dave.
  4. Pastor Powers Payton at Bible Baptist Church of Plum Boro (Pittsburgh) and Haddon Heights Baptist (New Jersey). To both Kathee and me, the prototypical Pastor.
  5. Deacon Jim Salomon at Plum Boro. His dear wife Hermine is with the Lord. Jim still living for Christ.
  6. Pastor Dan Williams of South Holly Baptist in Littleton, CO
  7. Pastor Doug McLachlan of Fourth Baptist Church in Plymouth, MN.

Some practical ways to "to esteem them very highly for their work’s sake".

  1. Attend your church faithfully and pay attention.
  2. Pray daily for your Pastor (and wife and family) and Pastoral staff.
  3. Greet him at church
  4. Remember him with an appropriate gift at the holidays
  5. Let him know of needs and prayer requests.
