It was a time for prayer – and layoffs.

Robert E. Murray read a prayer to a group of company staff members on the day after the election, lamenting the direction of the country and asking: “Lord, please forgive me and anyone with me in Murray Energy Corp. for the decisions that we are now forced to make to preserve the very existence of any of the enterprises that you have helped us build.”

On Wednesday, Murray also laid off 54 people at American Coal, one of his subsidiary companies, and 102 at Utah American Energy, blaming a “war on coal” by the administration of President Barack Obama.”

Jim Peethttps://www.blogger.com/profile/07649414726939918803noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-26981669.post-54963871692846133672012-11-09T10:55:25.880-06:002012-11-09T10:55:25.880-06:00More (11/7/2012): Here's Those Layoffs We Vote...More (11/7/2012): Here's Those Layoffs We Voted For Last NightJim Peethttps://www.blogger.com/profile/07649414726939918803noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-26981669.post-76991138741837085652012-11-05T18:04:25.843-06:002012-11-05T18:04:25.843-06:00WSJ on 11/5/12: Health-Care Law Spurs a Shift to P...WSJ on 11/5/12: Health-Care Law Spurs a Shift to Part-Time Workers:

Several restaurants, hotels and retailers have started or are preparing to limit schedules of hourly workers to below 30 hours a week. That is the threshold at which large employers in 2014 would have to offer workers a minimum level of insurance or pay a penalty starting at $2,000 for each worker.

The shift is one of the first significant steps by employers to avoid requirements under the health-care law, and whether the trend continues hinges on Tuesday's election results.
